Start of a new semester

Hello All.

Well, this time it has been 2 months since my last post. I appear to be getting worse at this blog thing instead of better.

I thought I would take a moment to update you on a few happenings around campus. We are just getting back from our semester break, so our students are bringing this campus back to life after a few weeks of rest. Once back to campus, they will be welcomed with the grand opening of our new Harre Union! This is such an incredible building that will do so much to enhance the already strong community feel that you get from the Valpo campus.

If you have not yet taken the time to visit campus, there is no better time than right now. You will be able to see the full effect of the new Union on campus and get a first hand look at the facility that will be available to you for the next four years!

We are also still accepting applications for the Fall. The next key date to target is January 15th, our scholarship priority consideration deadline. This will allow you to still gain the full benefit from an scholarships that you may qualify to receive.

If you have any questions about visiting campus or applying for admission to Valpo, please email me directly at bart.harvey@valpo.edu. I look forward to seeing you on campus!

Start of Travel

Hello again.

I have to admit, I have not been very good at keeping up on this whole blogging thing. I guess I need to try and do better.

Just a quick update. I have started my fall travel....well....kind of. This past week, I covered college fairs at Kokomo (hello all you Wildkats!) as well as Monticello (home of the Indians) and Lafayette (I saw Bronchos, Knights, Mavericks, Raiders, Devils and I probably missed a few..so I am sorry!). It was nice to be out of the office a few days, but boy was the work waiting on me!

The week before, I was fortunate enough to attend a National conference for college admission counselors and high school guidance counselors. It was held in Seattle, Washington. Seattle is such a great city! I was able to catch the famous Pike Place Market where I watched the workers toss fish across the market and sing their little jingles about each type of fish they were throwing around. I was also able to take in the famous Space Needle, which is a must see of anyone traveling to Seattle. Oh....and yes, I did attend a few conference sessions....but just a few!

Next week, I will be covering the Transfer College Fair at Ivy Tech in Lafayette on Tuesday.

My next step, is to try to schedule a few high school visits within my territory. If you have an overwhelming desire to have me at your high school, please let me know. I will do my best to get there!

Until next time.....
Bart

Here they come!

In addition to my admission counselor duties, I also supervise the Operations area of the Office of Admissions. What does that mean? Well, basically, I am the person you can blame for all the mail that come to the house and the email that fills your Inbox! You're Welcome! My staff also enters all the information you provide on your applications.

Anyway...just thought I would let everyone know that the applications are rolling in now. Our processing team is entering data and moving completed files to your individual counselors each day. Please remember, that admission decisions probably won't start going out until the end of September or early October, so don't panic. If your application file is complete, then you will be hearing from us in the very near future.

Movin' on up!

Hello All.

Well...for anyone that knows me, being a blogger was nowhere on my "to do" list in life. With that said, here I am. The Valparaiso University Office of Admission has decided to start blogging about our daily interactions within the office, so I am going to give this an honest effort. Who knows, maybe I will surprise myself!

If anyone wants to get the ball rolling, I would be happy to take questions from the audience. Ok...seeing none, I guess I need to go figure out exactly what I am going to write about.

Until next time.....
Bart
